Congrats to the cast and crew of "Pirates of Penzance, Jr." It was a wildly entertaining show, and we're so proud of our musical theatre students! Thank you to everyone who came out to help us and to all who attended the show. We especially want to recognize Mrs. Rosney and Mrs. Roussel for their dedication to this production and to our students.

We are happy to share the news that 11th grader Cadence Hight has qualified to compete in the International Thespian Society's international competition for the second year in a row. Her musical solo "Screw Loose" from Cry Baby earned her a spot to compete at the state level, where she received a superior rating. The International Thespian Festival will take place this summer in Bloomington, Indiana. Congratulations, Cadence!

We're having a wonderful weekend at the NC International Thespian Festival competition at UNCG! Emily Haber and Cadence Hight are competing in the musical solo category, and Zabby Memering is competing in the Scenic Design category. Back home, Macey Coughlin and Madelyn Coble are participating (virtually) in the musical solo category as well. All five presentations are complete, and we're now enjoying tech challenge workshops and classes on improv, comedy, and stage combat. We even participated in a "trashion" show. We'll be watching a one-act show put on by students this evening and attending the awards ceremony tomorrow afternoon to see if anyone moves on to the Nationals round. Break legs, all!

Congratulations to Madelyn Coble, Zabby Memering, Emily Haber, Macey Coughlin, and Cadence Hight. These students earned either a superior or excellent overall score at the ITS regional event and are now allowed to compete at the NC Thespian Festival at UNCG in March! Break legs! The photos are of a scene Zabby Memering created for the play "Puffs," by Matt Cox. She earned a Superior score in the Scenic Design category.

Our Arts Department continues to grow this semester, and our students (and teachers) couldn't be happier! Mrs. Roussel just started working with her Middle School dancers. During the first week of class, they learned how to properly warm up, and each student created their own little dance phrase, based on the amount of syllables in their name. Our new Musical Theatre class is also off to a roaring start! The actors - under the instruction of Mrs. Rosney and Mrs. Roussel - have already auditioned for roles in The Pirates of Penzance, Jr., which will be performed this Spring in the Epiphany Performing Arts Center. There is so much talent in this robust class, and we know the show is going to be spectacular. What an exciting time for the dancers, singers, and actors at Epiphany!

Part of the 4th-grade curriculum is learning about the history of North Carolina. As residents of the Colonial Capital of our state, we are surrounded by our early history. Today students came to school dressed in colonial attire, read by candlelight, played colonial games in PE, made candles in Art, learned about drumming in Music, made their own butter, and spent their day as school children would have in the earliest days of our country.
