Choral Music and Concert Band performance
Our Middle School concert band traveled to Havelock this morning to perform in the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Music Performance Adjudication. Many of these students were in our very first band class last year, so it is a tremendous growth experience for them and for our performing arts program for them to be going to the MPA this year. Thanks again to Mrs. Rosney for her leadership and inspiration.

Grades 3, 4, and 5 filled New Bern Civic Theatre this morning to see the SpongeBob Musical, and it didn't disappoint! The acting, the songs, the set, and the costumes were very entertaining. Grades K, 1, and 2 will be attending this afternoon. If you'd like to see the show, this is the last weekend (March 22-24). Make sure to buy your tickets in advance as they are running low.

Epiphany eighth-grader Ben Copland has been selected for the Honors Performance Series in Pasadena, California. Ben will perform cello in June with the Honors Junior Orchestra. Participation in the Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated young performers from across the world. Ben auditioned for the Honors Performance Series and was recently accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements demonstrated in their application and audition recording. Ben will join performers from around the world for a special performance at the world-famous Ambassador Auditorium, a venue that marks the pinnacle of musical achievement. The finalists will come together in California where they will have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other performers, and get a taste of Pasadena. The Honors Performance will take place on June 22, 2024. “Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each Finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing,” said Marion Gomez, Music Director for the Honors Performance Series. “We processed nearly 10,000 nominations this year and have selected the most talented student performers from around the world. Working with these conductors and performing at these renowned music halls is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians will never forget.”

Our Upper School Choral Music class traveled to Croatan High School in Carteret County for a Music Performance Adjudication on Friday. Our students worked very hard to prepare for the event and had a great showing! We look forward to competing again next year. Special thanks to Mrs. Rosney for making this opportunity happen for our choir and to Tim Maddox for accompanying us on the piano.

Mrs. Boyd (Drama Teacher) and Mrs. Oliver (Director of Fine Arts) had the pleasure of taking six students to the state Thespian Festival at ECU over the weekend. We attended workshops and took part in tech challenges. We saw the ECU dance company perform. We watched the top student winner of each category perform and present their work. And most importantly, we had an incredibly strong showing at the competition portion of the weekend. Two of our students (Caroline and Karina) received "Excellent" scores for their performances, and four (Peyton, Zabby, Bri, and Tucker) received "Superior" scores on their presentations. Students who earn a superior score automatically qualify to compete in the International competition this summer in Bloomington, Indiana. Additionally, Bri's marketing design plan for Epiphany's upcoming production of the musical Annie, Jr. earned her the Critic's Choice award - best score in her category. Bri presented her work to all 800+ students at the festival. Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and a fun, memorable weekend!
