Epiphany senior Caroline Goodwin recently received a Civic Local Foundation Scholarship Award in the amount of $5,000. The scholarship is made possible by funding from Civic and Local Government Federal Credit Unions (LGFCU).
Goodwin will utilize the scholarship to further her education at UNC Chapel Hill. This prestigious scholarship, awarded to only 25 deserving students, is a testament to their academic prowess and commitment to their communities. It will support education expenses, paving the way for a successful educational journey.
According to Goodwin, “By receiving this scholarship, it will help me pay for college, since I will be in school for a total of seven years. My journey to becoming a physical therapist will not be as stressful, financially, with this scholarship.”
The Civic Local Foundation Scholarship is not just a recognition of a student's high achievement in academic and extracurricular activities, but also a testament to the Foundation's commitment to positively impacting communities across North Carolina. By awarding scholarships, the Foundation is investing in the future of our communities. Since its establishment, the Foundation has awarded nearly $3 million in scholarship funding, supporting professional development and higher education.

From the Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek: As we enter this celebratory time of graduation and college decisions, we'd like to honor one of our first local scholarship winners of the year. Senior Zabby Memering received the second annual Dare Blackburn Oliver Fine Arts Scholarship this morning. This award is sponsored by The Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek and is given each year to a graduating senior at The Epiphany School of Global Studies who has made extensive contributions in the arts at school and in our greater community. The winner receives $3,500 in unrestricted funds. Zabby, who has designed and created dozens of sets for the stages at her school, Rivertowne, and New Bern Civic Theatre, will be attending the College of Design at NC State where she will pursue a degree in architecture. Special thanks to our selection panel, consisting of leaders in our local arts community: John Van Dyke, Jon Burger, Michael Tahaney and Ed Koffenberger. Thanks also to my wife and best friend, Director of Fine Arts at Epiphany - Dare Oliver - for her tireless efforts to bring focus and excellence to the fine arts program in our school. Congratulations, Zabby!
Congratulations to all the Epiphany artists who had work on display at ArtWalk on Friday. The impressive exhibit took three days to install by our hardworking art teachers. It was so much fun to watch our students find their work. We also appreciate all the kind words on our "Leave a compliment for the artist" cards. We look forward to holding another Pop-Up Art Display in the Harrison Center again next May.
Today Pastor Kirk and Rocky, his pet tortoise, asked Rocky's friend Marco over for a visit during Lower School chapel. Students learned a great lesson from Rocky and Marco. They learned that if we live like Jesus taught us, we will grow. Sometimes we can't see it, or we can't tell we're growing, but God is working in us and through us.
It's almost time for ARTWALK!!! Teachers and students have been working very hard to prepare Epiphany's Pop-Up Art Show, which can be seen between 5 and 8 p.m. tonight only. Admission is free - we are set up at the Harrison Center, 311 Middle Street in Downtown New Bern. Grades K-12 are represented. Please stop by and say hello! Some of our Upper School students also have art hanging at Bank of the Arts and Community Artists Gallery & Studios.
The Craven County Twin Rivers Association held its Young Author's Celebration this weekend. We're proud of our Epiphany second grader who attended and was a county and state winner.
This Friday, Epiphany students in grades K-12 will have art on display during ArtWalk downtown. Please drop by the Harrison Center (311 Middle Street, near Cow Cafe and Bank of the Arts) between 5 and 8 p.m. that evening. Admission is free. Fifth-grader Liz Copland's self portrait is featured on the ArtWalk map this month. Congratulations, Liz!
Flowers will be for sale in the rear foyer starting at 6:30 p.m. for the Student Favorites Concert tonight. If you have a loved one participating in the concert, please consider purchasing flowers that were arranged by Upper School art students, National Art Honor Society members, and Epiphany art teacher, Mrs. Tomboulian. We have several end-of-the-year programs all happening this week! Please plan to join us. First up: Student Favorites Concert in the PAC on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Many students will be performing in this show - you won't want to miss it! We'll be showcasing songs from our choirs, concert band, instrumental bands, and even some seniors as they chose a solo or duet to share with us. Our Middle School concert band traveled to Havelock this morning to perform in the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Music Performance Adjudication. Many of these students were in our very first band class last year, so it is a tremendous growth experience for them and for our performing arts program for them to be going to the MPA this year. Thanks again to Mrs. Rosney for her leadership and inspiration.
It's such a great feeling to help others! Our students worked hard preparing lunch at RCS today.
