15 Year

Greetings to our Epiphany Community.

I’m happy to be able to let you know that the CDC and Department of Health guidelines are changing related to COVID-19, and with that will come a few changes here at Epiphany!  We have already let you know that on the Henderson campus we will be going back to our regular classrooms as we had in past years during the 4thquarter, but we will be able to allow opportunity for Henderson students to play with more of their friends than just those in their classroom in these next few weeks.  Also because of guideline changes, we will be able to stop doing “drop off” temperature checks as of this Wednesday.  We will continue with temperature checks in the classroom closer to noon.

On the Trent campus we have been able to allow limited mixing of Middle School students during their “brain breaks”, and Upper School students have regained full use of their lockers.  Nice to know that US students don’t have to carry all of their books back and forth every day!  We will also, as on Henderson, stop taking student temperatures as of Wednesday during the morning “drop off”.

As guidelines change, and as we deem appropriate, we will continue to work towards wrapping up this school year as “normal” as possible, with plans to start the 2021-2022 school year without any COVID-19 restrictions. We are looking forward to getting back our electives, our clubs, our advisories, our sports programs…!

Speaking of sports, it is amazing how much our students have been able to do in this year of pandemic.  For our winter sports season, Matt James (Athletic Director) was able to secure two new, dynamic coaches for our boys and girls basketball varsity programs.  Josh Dawson (boys) and Alison Quebedeaux (girls) brought a lot of excitement and experience to our basketball program.  David Wang continues to provide excellent coaching for our co-ed swim team, and this year our boys team won the conference championship while the girls team took the runners-up spot.  We also saw Zach Liland take All-Conference in basketball, and both Caroline Goodwin and Charlie Jones take All-Conference in swimming.

Our cheer team also continues to do so well, despite having several events cancelled due to COVID.  But they were able to compete at the CCA Championships in Salem, Virginia just this last weekend where they took first place in the Medium Varsity Co-ed Music Division!  With that win they have been invited to participate in the Macy’s Day Parade on Thanksgiving Day!  Very excited and happy for them.

Our spring sports have now begun with girls soccer, boys tennis, boy’s golf and baseball.  It has been a great start for our student/athletes, and beautiful North Carolina spring weather for watching them play as spectators are once again allowed to attend.

In some ways it seems that this 2020-2021 school year has lasted about 10 years, but at the same time I am so proud of the way our students, parents, teachers and staff have handled it.  Thank you all for the way you have made this year a success!

God bless,
Dwight
